Erectile dysfunction

Erection is a neurovascular phenomenon under hormonal control. It consists of arterial dilation, relaxation of the trabecular smooth muscle and activation of the veno-occlusive mechanism of the corpora cavernosa.

The advances in basic and clinical research on ED that have been made in the last 15 years have led to the development of new ED treatment options, including new drugs for use intracavernosa, intraurethral and, more recently, oral.
