Premature ejaculation

Ejaculation is a natural process mediated mainly by the autonomic nervous system. It consists of two main phases: the emission and the expulsion of the semen.

In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th edition, revised text (DSM-IV-TR), PE is defined as a persistent or recurrent ejaculation in response to minimal sexual stimulation before, at or shortly after penetration and before the person wants it.

The highest prevalence of 31% (males 18-59 years). The prevalence rates between 18 and 29 years, 30 and 39 years, 40 and 49 years and 50 and 59 years were 30%, 32%, 28% and 55%, respectively.

  • Premature ejaculation or lack of control of ejaculation, is the inability to exercise a voluntary control over the ejaculatory reflex so that once a man reaches a certain level of sexual arousal he ejaculates automatically and quickly after or even before penetration vaginal.
  • It is part of a sexual dysfunction characterized by an ejaculation in which always or almost always occurs before or within approximately one minute after vaginal penetration, and the inability to delay ejaculation in all or almost all vaginal penetrations.

The adverse effects that this entails are negative psychological consequences such as anguish, annoyance, frustration and the refusal to have sexual intimacy in people suffering from this problem, likewise it can be a cause of infertility if ejaculation occurs before penetration. Therefore, patients suffering from premature ejaculation tend to have their quality of life affected.
