Human papilloma virus

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a small-sized, non-encapsulated virus with an icosahedral structure and a double strand of circular DNA from 7,500 to 8,000 bp. This virus belongs to the family of Papovaviridae, included in the genus Papilomavirus.

 
  • In the clinical phase mainly warty condylomata lesions appear in the genital region mainly.
 

HPV types 16, 18, 31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59 and 66 are carcinogenic to humans, high-risk cancer types and other types, including HPV 6 and HPV 11, are possible carcinogens for human types of low oncological risk.

 

The diagnosis of common warts is based on their clinical presentation, anatomical location and histology. In most cases it is not necessary to identify the viral genotype, since all correspond to low-risk or benign types (HPV 11 in laryngeal papillomatosis, vulgar warts: HPV 2, 27 and 57, flat warts: 3 and 10; hands and feet: HPV 1.

The use of cabinet laboratories.

Test based on polymerase chain reaction (PCR-based assay- Amplicor VPH, Roche Diagnostic, Basel, Switzerland), currently available in Europe. Identify 30 genotypes, including 13 high risk or oncogenic.

 
  • Multiple sexual partners.
  • Decrease in defenses.
 

Treatment of cutaneous and ano-genital warts At present, there is no specific drug against HPV, of systemic use, which has a low toxicity profile, and with proven efficacy. The solution has been the use of therapeutic methods that destroy infected cells (physical, chemical or surgical).

  • Fluoracilo.
  • Crioterapia.
  • Cimetidina.
  • Inosine pranobex.
